Dive Site Malpique – The Underwater Graveyard

Malpique is the most famous dive site on La Palma. Almost everyone of the La Palma visitors that had previously informed would like to have seen the crosses. There is something mystical about the 39 monuments. Contrary to the first impression here is not a sunken cemetery but a memorial. See more below. The crosses are a highlight in any logbook, but the life around is also interesting. In addition, the dive site has a great steep wall, two archways and a tower of lava rock to offer.

The Crosses

In 1742 they were declared martyrs and beatified in 1862. They are waiting for their canonization until today, because unfortunately none of them has ever performed a miracle. Finally, in 2003, the 39 crosses were sunk and the island’s main diving attraction was created.
